The Government of Alberta has opened a consultation window for a Quantification Protocol for CO2 Capture and Permanent Geologic Sequestration.

However, both of these protocols include ONLY post-combustion carbon capture technologies (aka the capture of CO2 that is generated from burning methane gas).

There is NO protocol for pre-combustion carbon capture such as Innova's methane pyrolysis technology that eliminates the formation of CO2 in the first place.

Innova’s technology separates the carbon and hydrogen from the methane gas PRIOR to combustion of the fuel.

  • No CO2 is generated in Innova’s process, and combustion of hydrogen does not create CO2 emissions.

  • The solid carbon that is captured is stable, non-toxic, and simple to transport.

  • Better yet, the solid carbon is a valuable commodity that can be utilized in many commercial applications such as steel making, additives in concrete and asphalt, and soil remediation.

⭐ For every 1 tonne of solid carbon captured from methane pyrolysis, 3.67 tonnes of CO2 can be diverted from the atmosphere.⭐

While the existing Quantification Protocols provide an economic opportunity for clean hydrogen production using post-combustion carbon capture technologies, methane pyrolysis is at a disadvantage without an equivalent protocol in place.

Join Innova in a call to action (CTA) for the Alberta Government to develop a Quantification Protocol for Solid Carbon Generated by Methane Pyrolysis!
