Another milestone in Innova's technology scale-up!
Innova’s field pilot reactor has been installed at our Sturgeon County facility, and is now getting ready for commissioning.
On a recent tour, Innova’s CTO, Dr. Ehsan Abbasi, explains how Innova’s reactor is where all the "magic" happens.
The reactor takes methane gas (CH4) and splits it into its constituent components of carbon (C) and hydrogen (2H2).
Compared to incumbent technologies, Innova’s proprietary design:
Uses much lower temperatures, which means lower energy intensity and lower operating costs
Requires no water or oxygen, and produces no CO2, which means lower emissions and the ability to decarbonize the world’s most carbon-intensive industries
Captures the carbon in the form of valuable high-demand graphite, a critical mineral whose supply has historically been dominated by China
Mitigates reactor fouling (the issue with typical methane pyrolysis technologies), which means longer run times and lower maintenance costs
Uses readily available materials and piping - the low temps eliminate the need for bespoke materials, which means lower capital costs
Stay tuned for more upcoming news on our field pilot scale-up!
